Despite the fact that violence against persons with disabilities is a widespread phenomenon, the common public and often decision makers are ignorant of this infamous reality. It is therefore crucial to give the world a real picture of the violence perpetrated on people with disabilities.

There have been some work and researches on specific issues or regions but there is a huge dearth of information on the issue.

Disabled People's International (DPI) is committed to addressing the issue of all forms of violence, including traditional, community, domestic and State violence, against all persons with disabilities in a holistic manner.

This work will have a special focus on sexual violence and abuse against women and girls with disabilities as well as issues related to tradition that foster/tolerate violence against children with disabilities, people with albinism or people with mental health conditions.
